Tropical passion fruit margarita that’s sweet and sour with a splash of lime, fresh hint of basil, and slight bite from the tequila, this margarita is like sunshine in a glass with fluffy clouds on top!

Passion Fruit Margarita on the Rocks with Lime & Basil

There is something about a margarita that makes you think of sunshine and fun.  For us, this passion fruit margarita invokes memories of Mexico and Las Vegas, sipping a margarita on the beach or while lounging at the pool.  Holding the glass against your cheek to cool yourself down.  Whether it be on the rocks or blended, the fruity and citrus tropical flavors of a margarita have the power to transport you there, you just have to close your eyes, take a sip, and voila!

This one especially does the trick.   With its bright color, tropical passion fruit sweetness, splash of lime, fresh hint of basil, and slight bite from the tequila, this margarita is like sunshine in a glass with fluffy clouds on top!

Its the addition of basil and frothy egg white that makes this passion fruit margarita extra special and unique.

My girlfriend Dayna recently suggested that Debbie and I try a cocktail that she ordered in a restaurant recently that had egg whites shaken up with the other ingredients.  When I mentioned this to Debbie, her eyes lit up and she told me that her most favorite margarita that she has ever had was shaken with egg whites.  So we had to try our hand at it with this one.

Before you start thinking about raw eggs in your drink, I’m going to stop you.  If you are feeling at all adventurous, or agreeable, we would like to insist that you try them!  The egg whites make your cocktail so smooth with beautiful pillowy puffs of silky froth.  From this point on, I’m not sure I will ever have another margarita on the rocks without them.

The basil, on the other hand, adds a dimension of freshness to this passion fruit margarita.  When you muddle it with the tequila and lime quite well, the flavor of the basil really shines through. It pairs perfectly with these tropical flavors and I foresee a lot of these margaritas in our future this summer.

I think I will grow extra basil this year…

TGIF Everyone!

This sounds so, so good. Did you make the passion fruit juice or did you buy it? What kind, if you did buy? Thanks…

Hi Erin, Debbie bought the passion fruit juice and it is concentrated juice, however, you could make your own too, which would likely be even better! Im sorry, I don’t know the brand name of the juice anymore. I will update the recipe with the brand when I see it again.
