Pomegranate Kombucha Margarita Recipe

Kombucha Pomegranate Margarita Recipe

I am pretty impressed with this margarita recipe mixed with kombucha and pomegranate. It’s the first of many Kombucha cocktails to come, I am certain of this.

I have been drinking Kombucha for about 6 months now and I love it. I have a big jar with my Kombucha SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria and Yeast) mushroom floating on top that gives Kevin the heebie jebbies and I get a right kick out of that. This fermented tea has started to become more well known in the last little while, but my mom has been drinking it for years!  Kombucha is tea  that’s mixed with sugar and then fermented by the SCOBY over 7 – 21 or so days.  It becomes a slightly effervescent probiotic drink that is said to have a ton of health benefits, but I drink it mostly for its probiotics.  All fermented foods have probiotics.  If you ever find yourself with digestion issues, fermented foods like kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi and keifer can really help.

You can also do a second ferment with your kombucha after it has finished brewing. You add a little fruit juice to it, screw a lid on tight and let it sit for another day.  It takes on the flavor of the fruit juice and becomes quite effervescent and fizzy, just like pop.  That is my favorite way to drink it.  Kids love it too and it’s a fabulous, healthy alternative to pop.

This kombucha margarita recipe is made with kombucha that I made myself and I did a second ferment with pomegranate juice, but don’t let that deter you.  You can just as easily use store bought unflavored or original flavored kombucha and maybe add a touch more pom wonderful to enhance the pomegranate flavor.  You can get kombucha in most supermarkets these days but certainly from stores like whole foods or grocery stores geared towards health.

Debbie and I both love the slight fizziness that the kombucha gives to this margarita recipe.  This is going to open up a whole new world of cocktails for us!

In case you are interested in making your own kombucha, Cultured Food Life or Cultures for Health are two great sites with lots of information and you can purchase your starter SCOBY from them too.  I encourage you to give it a shot.  Its really easy and a whole lot cheaper and better for you than buying store bought kombucha.

  1. Fermented foods are something that interests me on a health level (because they are so good for you), but I’ve never had kombucha since I stay away from caffeine. That’s looks so good, though, that I might have to look into what low-caffeine teas could be used to make it!

    1. Hi Annemarie! Actually, the kombucha SCOBY eats the caffeine in the tea leaving the drink with much less caffeine than when you started. Also I believe that using caffeinated tea is a must for kombucha for that reason. It’s worth researching.

        1. Yes! You can use green tea or white tea. I have been told that one should still use a couple bags of black tea as well even if you are using green or white tea, but Im not certain that is the truth. Its worth looking into. I saw a white tea kombucha brew recently, but Im not certain that it was white tea exclusively… I am going to research it a bit.

  2. Such a nice article about pomegranate kombucha margarita recipe. We can add other fruit to make our kombucha drink more tasty. One of kombucha’s greatest health benefits is its ability to detox the body. It is rich in many of the enzymes and bacterial acids your body produces and/or uses to detox your system, thus reducing your pancreatic load and easing the burden on your liver.
