Have you tried grapefruit beer? My girlfriend Mandy really likes it. Debbie and I are indifferent. But…! Mix it with fresh squeezed blood orange juice, a touch of tart lemon juice, a splash of white rum, and a few segments of grapefruit and blood orange, you really have something worth sipping on. It’s dangerously good. Not sweet at all, pleasantly fizzy and possibly the perfect cocktail for your upcoming Super Bowl party or any other get together where beer is typically served.
It’s also so pretty!
Grapefruit beer isn’t really your typical beer. Its very pale, a little sweet, and its only 2.5% alcohol. Don’t be tempted to add more than 1 oz of rum to this cocktail. It does not taste good. Its perfect with 1 oz and a slight rum flavor.
Debbie and I made this one on a Sunday when I had woken up with a tweak in my neck so bad that I wasn’t able to go snowmobiling as planned. So instead, we mixed one of these up and sat in Debbie’s hot tub for the afternoon. Our first one had a bit too much rum and by the end of it, my neck felt better and I didn’t care I wasn’t out sledding with Kevin. LOL.
We got the idea for this one from a local restaurant where they serve a similar concoction made with shocktop orange beer and a bunch of fruit juice. Its quite good, but we like ours better with freshly squeezed juice and of course, blood oranges!! If your reading this when blood oranges are out of season, you could try navel oranges or another sweeter orange and add some grapefruit juice as well.
What are you doing for the Super Bowl? Its a great excuse to get together with friends, jump on the football bandwagon (if your not a huge fan already) and enjoy some good food and a few tasty drinks. Next week we will share some suggestions for your game day menu. You can be sure that this cocktail will be on it!
